The issue and history of slavery are quite complex. Throughout history, the Church found Herself among cultures practicing slavery and had to deal with it. An early example is St. Paul’s Epistle to Philemon. St. Paul appears to tolerate slavery, but he also warned slave masters that they too have a Master in Heaven who would judge them (Col. 4:1). Due to Her weakness in political affairs, the Church could not stop every evil practice. However, political weakness is quite different than approval. There are many examples of saints buying slaves and then setting them free (e.g. St. Nicholas, Trinitarian Fathers & White Fathers). Unfortunately there were also Catholics and even clergy, who participated in slavery, and their sins caused scandal to the Church.

A type of slavery was the cultural norm at the time the New Testament books were written, but Christianity eventually banned it. Slavery in bible times was nothing like chattel or racial slavery. Slaves in bible times had rights, and could eventually attain their freedom, unlike the slaves we understand them to be in the American south before the civil war. George Washington owned slaves.

Despite the multiple sources and overwhelming evidence, some bozzo bigot will say something stupid about the Catholic Church, because they read about it on some hate site like jesusislord.con, but they never document their fabrications.

Yes slavery was very much accepted in the bible, and why not? Jews were slaves most of their existence, Egypt, was both enslaved and a slaver, Rome was a slave master for thousands of years over the known world. England and most of Ireland/wales were under roman slavery for over 450 years.
Women have been enslaved under Islam for over 1500 years and most still are.
Jst what sticks in peoples minds that blacks are the only ones to have ever been enslaved is beyond me. but it isn't true. Every rac eon earth has had people under slavery in their past.
Religion fully excepts it as a cultural right, and Islam even demands it.

It is mentioned in the book of John, but slavery was usually not as criminal as it was during the Slave Trade era before the Civil War. It wasn't a lifetime sentance, but a little more like the employer-employee relationship we have today, where the workers were taken care of with room, board and wages.

Much like divorce, it was tolerated. But as youll note, God always told Israel not to be slaves to anybody and not to take and sell each other into slavery. They were not meant to be slaves but free men but they did it anyway!

Men love to treat other men and women like property, but God has always had it in mind for men to be free. That is part of the symbolism of the freedom on Christ; that we are no longer slaves to sin.

RE: Darwin- Which came 1st men doing it? Or God giving them the rules under which to conduct it? Youre acting like God said "Thou shalt have slaves" and are misrepresenting Scripture like most unbelievers who think they know the Bible. Slavery comes from men and sin, not God. The Bible is the word of God because it reveals Jesus as the Son of God who is your only hope to be saved!
