Why would you need to tell someone that? It's mainly a genre of music, but when it describes people, it refers to a certain style of clothes, hair, and make-up. It's just a matter of physically appearance, so you're only emo if you LOOK emo. You shouldn't need to tell anyone that you try to dress emo, your clothes and hair should say it for you, and if they don't the, quite frankly, you're not emo. It's just not something you need to tell someone, any more than you would say to someone, "hey, I'm preppy," or "hey, I'm a hippie."
I think that more likely what you're getting at is the emotional state that is (incorrectly) associated with being emo. People associate emo with feeling misunderstood, being sad all the time, feeling like you don't fit in, and maybe even hurting yourself. If that's what you're getting at, it's called depression. If you're depressed, you should tell your parents, or other trusted adult (ex. school counselor, teacher, doctor, or adult family member) exactly that. Just tell them you need to talk to them, find a private place to talk, and tell them what's wrong (whether it's that you're just overall not happy or stressed, or if there's something more specific going on). The hardest part is just bringing up the subject - it gets easier from there because they'll help direct the conversation. If you've been physically hurting yourself (ex. cutting), you can just say "I need to talk to you," and then show them the marks it's left. If you can talk to a school counselor, or a doctor or nurse, it will be easier because they are trained to deal with these kinds of issues, so they'll know what to ask you to make it easier to talk about. If you're talking to a parent or other relative it might be a little harder because they might not know what to say. But if you're suffering, emotionally or otherwise, it's important that you tell someone, no matter how hard it is, because they'll help you feel better, and fix whatever's going wrong in your life.

I had to recently do this with my boyfriend, so I can def. understand what your going through. If you feel comfortable with this person, just let it out. If they don't understand and aren't there for you, then there not worth your time! Good Luck!
