I downloaded the Knoppix version of Linux. I should be able to boot and run the operating system from my CD drive. I downloaded the .iso file. and the .md5's. I burned them on to a CD. I then set my BIOS to give my CD drive the priority. When I boot, I hear the CD drive, but then Windows comes up.

probably u just burn iso file as it is so it wont get as files

what you need to do is burn that "iso" as image file, so what it will do extract the files onto CD and thats it

OR

get winiso "similar to winzip"
and open iso file with winiso then extract the files to some folder burn the files that are IN that folder!

and you should be ok..

check again your boot settings CD must boot FIRST!

It should work. Did you burn the cd at 8x? Are you sure there isn't a list where you can choose where do you want to boot? On my thinkpad it F12, a list appears to choose, the boot device. Anyway, check kanotix out, it's better.

try mandrake or mandriva linux, tried it and it worked fine, by the way, changing your boot sequence in the bios was the only thing you had to do. if it does not work, your file may be corrupted.
