I've found that the airlines themselves usually have the cheapest fares from LAX to HNL (http://www.hawaiianair.com or http://www.alohaair.com). If you join their frequent flyer clubs, they offer additional fare discounts.

Sometimes you'll find a deal on cheaptickets.com, expedia.com, etc., but I usually find the best deals on Hawaiian and Aloha. For some reason the larger carriers like Continental and United tend to be more expensive.

Hawaiian Airlines is the cheapest. They are also the best. It's a great deal.

ATA is having a sale for $260.00 one way tickets so you should check them out. The sale ends for that price tickets on the 18th of Sept. So get them while they are that cheap.

Expedia has awesome deals...sometimes hundreds of dollars cheaper than others.

if you can fly out of outlying airports like john wayne etc, check out aloha or hawaiian. otherwise compare shop online.
