It depends on the sitituation, I've been with my boyfriend for 4 years. His son was 3 and is now almost 8. His mother also has a boyfriend so I dont think its a bad thing hes got a mother and father figure at both houses.ITs just 2 more people to love and care for him. he doesnt call me mom and he doesnt call the bf dad. I dont treat him any different than our son we have together. But when were out in public or at school HE says stepmom or stepdad its less confusing that way. Thats what works for us. Everyone is different.

No, because it would confused the children, especially if the other biological parent is in the picture. When I was dating my husband -his X-wife played an important role in informing her kids that she didn't want me to be considered a mother figure to her children. Now, that I'm married I'm still called by my first name. It's up to the children. In the circumstances that your in I would consider the children as "my boyfriend's children". Good luck

I personally hate the word step children. Maybe it is because I am adopted. Why can't you just say your boyfriends name and these are his children.

No. You're not married. I don't think of my father's girlfriend's daughters as my step sisters.

I don't. They are my boyfriends kids.
But they do call me their other mom. I don't live with my boyfriend either. If they want to call me mom I guess that's OK. Sometimes they call me by my name. Sometimes I'm mom. And my son is their big brother.
