My parents' 25th wedding anniversary is coming up next summer, and my sister and I would like to get them a trip to Hawaii, where they have always wanted to go. I've heard Maui is one of the best places to go... but I need some advice! We're thinking about getting an airfaire/hotel package. Any ideas about hotels we should check out or any advice at all would be appreciated!! Thanks!

I really think you shoud see a travel agent - it won't cost you a thing, and you can ask all the questions you want. Plus while your parents are away they can always call her/him if there is a problem.

I would highly recommend the Westin Maui. As most hotels on Kaanapali Beach, it is landscaped very nice. A big plus is that the swimming pools are terraced, and the top one is adults (18+) only. Complete with spa. That is a real joy when you are celebrating your 25th. Also, the sunset views are incredible from here. Another bonus is that if they stay here, their room key allows them to use the facilities and make charges to their room at the other 2 Starwood hotels. It may be a little pricy,but, like that credit card commercial, it's "priceless" . One last thing, don't forget a rental car, convertible preferred.

Hilton Waikoloa hotel in Kona is a family favorite. You won't be disappointed except for the cost of the restaurants. But all of Kona's restaurants are up there in price. Shop in the town of Waimea at KTA grocery store and sneak the food into the hotel. Bring a collapsable cooler from home. Be sure to go to the Hilton Waikoloa with them. Separate rooms of course.
Also, go to this website, www.hibeach.com if you want to get away from the crowds and tourist. I use these places when I stay on the neighbor islands with friends.

If you like really nice hotels, go to the Ritz Carlton Kapalua or go to Wailea in Kihei. This is both in Maui. And if you like peaceful places, go to IAO valley, you can picnic there and just enjoy the scenery. The most best place to go on an anniversary is to go to Haleakala where you can see the sunrise at a certain time. Its sooooo beautiful because its worth the drive up there when you see it. takes about 3 hours to get there but its really nice. And you can see the whales at the scenic point going to lahaina or kahului. well youll be able to see it because theres only one road going in each direction sooo you cant get lost. Or check the Hyatt at kaanapali. its really nice. they have a nice pool too.

There is tons of stuff to do.....they could renew their wedding vows via Hawaii style on the beach or do something totally different & wild like take the Helicopter sightseeing! First make sure you keep it a secret between the sisters,that will be kool.Maybe somewhere near the beach if they like that ,along with the airfair/hotel package.I think this would be GREAT comming from you 2 sisters. HAVE FUN.

You could make it really easy on yourself and buy them passage on a cruise. You can get a cruise from the mainland to Hawaii or fly them to Honolulu and book a cruise that takes them around to all the islands. A cruise would include hotel stay, food, and entertainment which may end up costing you less plus it's terribly romantic. Try Princess Cruise lines

Here today..gone to Maui...... Well I have been to Maui and Kaui but I prefer Lihue, Kaui.. It is so beautiful there and extremely tropical with waterfalls and gorgeous beaches.. Maui is a distant 3rd to Kaui.... Maui was Ok.. In Maui we stayed at the Hyatt but its very laid back and not much action.. If they want action they should go to Oahu.. Honolulu and stay on Wakiki beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Village or the Sheridan Wakakiki.. They are both gorgeous and on the beach with tons of late night action going on.. Maui and Kaui are not like that.. Very quiet and laid back. I like all 3 islands for different reasons but I don't know what your parents are like so its hard for me to really zero in on something specific for you... ALOLA...

I would stump for The Big Island.
Aside from the active volcano, they can rent a four-wheel drive and head to the top of Mauna Kea, they can be a coffemaker for a day at one of the coffee plantations, Waipi'o Valley (and they can use the four-wheel drive to get to the waterfalls there)
Please, get the book "Hawaii - The Big Island Revealed" by Doughty and Friedman for ideas

kona village on the big iisland is great .
No T.V. no phone Little grass shack on the Beach like a hotel room in side.
worth the $$ cause food is included.
check out going Thru a travel agent who can boo the package Thur insignia travel they are the cheapest consolidator for this place.

Personally, I prefer crowds and lots of people, so I had an excellent stay at the Hilton Hawaiin Village right on Waikiki beach on the island of Oahu.
