There are wonderful people in both religions and to generalize about either one is wrong. I know many Catholics who disagree with what the Pope said, and I know some that agree. Just as I know many Muslims that were upset and some that were not. However, posting comments such as this one is not helping to improve the image of Muslims as being a peaceful religion.

Islam claims to be a religion of peace. No problem. I got Muslim friends who just want peace. But can you find a verse in the Bible that is even remotely equivalent to these Koranic verses?
"Fight those who do not . . . follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book [i.e., Jews and Christians], until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection" (Q 9:29).
"slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them" (Q 9:5).
The pope's life has been immersed in deep study of not only the christian religion but every other religion so he can definitely quote more than what I did so don't ever think you are above him in knowledge.

"Our Pope" as you say isn't everyone's pope. Infact most Americans don't honor or support, or recognize the pope. Bit before you judge other people and their religion you should judge your own self and your religion.
I am not a pope person., I am sure there things you do not know about the "Roman Catholic Church". It is the founding father of Christianity. The reasson it's called the "Roman Catholic Church" is because it was founded in Rome be a Roman Emperor" . It became known as a christain church after others protested,and formed the Protestant branch of the church.
What you evidently don't know is that the "Roman Catholic Church also led to the formation of the Islamic religion when the mad man of the middle east "Mohammad( that is why "mad " is the last part of his name.) enlisted enough followers too kill, mangle, rape, murder, and occupy many regions including the Entire Middle East.
He Mohammad fashioned his religious Cult along the lines of "Judasm" and enlisted "Jesus" into his cause by accepting him as a "Prophet". This made conquest much easier among the millions of Christins he conquered, and butchered in his drive to make the world Islamic.
It's true that Christianity had it's bloody moments, but common sense, and law, and the will of the people to live free of religious bondage has turned Christianity into the one of love their savor "Jesus' spoke of.
Islam is one of death and slavery of women still. You yourself need to clean your own house before starting on the pope's.

Im not a Catholic but that Pope speaks the truth. Islam is not a religion of peace by virtue of many crazy things Muhammad did and said in his life as well as what is enshrined in the Uthman Quran they love so much.

I am wiccan and the pope would likely burn me at the stake but on the other hand he is telling it like it is in a way. I agree that violents is in most religions. one reason I choose my path it is among the most peaceful one and is more about learning of ones self . but as far as I can tell in history most people and religions have killed each other over believes . I am a lover not a fighter

The Pope was quoting someone. That was not his personal opinion. People like you who are so quick to start trouble and take offense where none was offered are the reason we have so much difficulty in this world today.

The Pope was only reading something someone said a long time ago. It appears that that long time ago person was correct however if modern Islamic behavior is any judge.
Islam is as Islam does.
