How do I melt those little caramel squares?
I just tried nuking 6 of the little squares at 50% power for a minute.
It didn't work. They melted and immediately became to hard to pour (over apples).
What did I do wrong?

Sounds like you didn't add any water. Here's how:

Ultimate Caramel Apples

1. WASH and dry 10 apples thoroughly. Insert stick into stem end of each apple.

2. MICROWAVE 75 unwrapped Kraft Caramels with 3 Tbsp. water in large glass measure or mixing bowl on HIGH for 3 to 3-1/2 minutes or until sauce is smooth when stirred.

3. DIP apples into hot caramel sauce and turn until coated. Scrape off excess sauce from bottom of apples and decorate*. Place on tray lined with waxed paper. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

* Decorations
Classic - roll caramel apple in chopped peanuts.

Chocolate Lovers - drizzle caramel apple with melted white and dark Baker's Chocolate.

Oreo Cookies - roll caramel apple in finely crushed Oreo Cookies.

Funny Face - decorate caramel apple with ring-shaped hard candy to make a colourful apple for kids.

Chewy Caramel

------------------------------...

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter or margarine
1 pound light brown sugar
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup light corn syrup
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

------------------------------...

DIRECTIONS:
In a heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Heat to between 234 and 240 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface. Cook for 2 minutes at that temperature.
Meanwhile, butter a 9x13 inch baking pan. When the caramel is ready, pour into the buttered pan. Allow to cool completely at room temperature. Remove from the pan and cut into squares using scissors. Wrap individual pieces in waxed paper or cellophane

Try putting them in a pot over a stove and melt them over medium heat and then pour over the apple .I put the whole bag of caramel in the pot and melt them then put a popsicle stick through the apple and drop the apple in the pot. Murphy's law

For a 14 oz bag, you would add 2 tbsp of milk and nuke 2 or 3 minutes. I dont know how much milk for 6 caramels.

they have to be melted in 15 second intervals and stired between each. stop as soon as they begin to melt. The same way that chocolate is melted in the microwave.
