A friend told me I could get in trouble, why is that?

Oh Doug J, you are a silly, silly guy! In answer to your question (even though you already know), seventeen year old girls probably shouldn't be in bars in the first place. Also, I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing you are old enough to know better. So in short, unless you want to spend some time in the slammer, I would recommend choosing women that are at least of legal age. Good luck with that! ;-)

Well, under 18, people are considered minors. If 17 year olds are in bars, they could get in trouble b/c they are underage and if you are with her and she gets arrested or caught, you are guilty by association. If she doesn't get caught, and you progress to taking her home or whatever, sex with a minor gets serious years in prison. I would stop. Pick up somebody your own age just to be safe.
