As Raven E said, it would be the segment of the multiple stop flight the passenger is on.

If you were on a Continental Airlines flight from Newark, NJ to San Diego, CA - there might be a stop-over in Houston, TX. The first leg would be the flight from Newark to Houston and the second leg would be the flight from Houston to San Diego.

If you were on a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego, CA to Boise, ID - you might fly from San Diego to Sacramento and then from Sacramento to Seattle. From Seattle you might change planes and fly into Boise. This would be a trip with three legs and involve one or two changes of aircraft.

It's one portion of a flight. Example: You're flying from Houston to JFK but have a stop in Nashville. Houston to Nashville is the first "Leg", Nashville to JFK is the second "Leg".

If a plane is making a stop before getting to its final destination.
the first part of the trip would be the first leg and the second part of the trip would be the second leg.
