my amstaff has a gay tail is their a way to straighen or shorten the dogs tail humanly over time.He looks 100%amstaff, just his tail is longer and i believe that's why it curls. He's not one of those monsters with a humonngous head. he just has a curly tail that bothers me.can you put weights on it or rods to straighten it. I feel jipped by the breeder.

Take him to an orthopedic vet. The vet can do a procedure to stretch or even rip the ligaments in the tail to keep in from curling. This needs to be done by a vet that knows what he/she is doing so that the tail still is usuable.

Is he young? If so he may not hold it so high as he ages and isn't as excited about things. Otherwise there isn't much you can do.

Get over it, it is just a tail. Tails are one of the last things I think about when choosing a puppy, there are so many more important things to a dog than a tail.

As far as feeling "jipped", did the breeder promise your dog would be perfect and have no faults? If so he is a fool, they all have faults, tail being one of the LEAST important of them (except for a few certain breeds like Labs).

Piper - it is NOT a birth DEFECT!!!

Like I said before, you bought a PET puppy that didn't even have papers!!!!!!! What do you expect??? The dog is going to have a fault here and there!!!!! The "breeder" is probably a piece of work, but unless you had a guarantee that you were getting a SHOW puppy, then you have nothing to complain about!!!
Jeez...it is a gay tail!!!! The dog is perfectly functional!!!! Love the dog and GET OVER IT!!

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, lots of amstaffs have from a slight bend to a total curl in their tail. .. not all have straight ones.. and no, there is nothing you can do to straighten his tail.. just love him as he was meant to be.
hope this helps..

No, it would require a surgical procedure to change the tail in that manor.

Besides, it only matters if you are planning on showing or breeding the dog.

Sorry to tell you this, but unless it is a birth defect, Amstaffs don't have curly tails. And no, there is no way to straighten it. Love him for who he is.
