Any food can be used in a diet if in moderation. Rice, a starch, is good fiber but watch the amount and especially the additives like butter or gravy.
If you want to lose weight, cut your calories. Go the the American Diabetic Assocation and read about an ADA diet, which is very good for losing weight.
Increase your exercise, e.g., walking, cardiovascular machines, and cut of the weight lifting of foods at night called snacks.

1 cup Rice, white, long grain, cooked 205 calories
According to a study done by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, the average number of calories burned during a 60-minute workout on a treadmill is 785 calories. By comparison, using a Stair Machine burned 690 calories; using a Rowing Machine burned 770 calories; using a Stationary Cycle burned 575 calories and a Cross-country Ski Machine burned 642 calories.
So you would have to run on a treadmill for about 15 minutes to burn the energy in a cup of rice

Yes rice will put on the punds cuz it's a startch. You should always avoid starchy foods when trying to loose weight, a good way to rememer that is to eliminate anything White from your diet and eat lots and lots of fresh veggies and fruit but becareful on the fruit cuz even natural sugars from the fruit can cause you to gain weight.

Rice is a good food to eat and it does help you to lose weight if you don't put much fat in it (such as frying, or putting butter on it). I don't know where people get the notion that eating rice or plain white bread or pasta would make you fat. It is the stuff you put on it that makes you fat. Take for example the Chinese or Japanese, you rarely ever see them fat. Thier diets consist of mostly rice. Its only after the introductions of fast food places in their countries that we are beginning to see some of them get fat. My advice to you is to just boil some rice and vegatables or baked (not fried chicken) and eat away.

You should not limit your diet to just a few foods to lose weight. Once you go off the diet, you will gain the weight back. Eat in moderation and lower your fat and sugar intake. Make sure to drink lots of water!

rice is all carbohydrates, if you eat excess carbs, and it isn't burned, it turns to glucose...it can make you gain weight, if you eat a lot of it, yes. That's why the lower carb diets are more favorable for losing weight than the low fat ones.

Hey,
You need to get on a diet and start getting in more exercise and make it a habit. In order to lose weight you must burn more calories then you eat.
So eat low calorie healthy meals and find a way to be active if its at the gym or out playing sports or walking with friends.
Also very important is motivation without it you will surely fail! you need to be motivated and dedicated in anything you do.
Success is a habit!
