As stated my friends five year old son's mom has just noticed a tooth growing out of his bottom gum area near where the tounge lays. Is this common or is it a sign of a major deformity? And what is it called?

There just isn't enogh room in the arch (the shape of the mouth with wich the teeth line up to form an "arch") for the tooth to fit to push the baby tooth loose and take it's place. This is common so don't be alarmed, not a major deformity. both of my lateral incisors, next to the 2 middle teeth (incisors) and before the canines, grew in toward my tongue and I just had to have the baby teeth extracted by a general dentist, which is the cheapest way, and then braces later to make room in my arch to fit the adult teeth.

It's common, and fixable, though it may not be cheap. Sometimes they attempt to fix it, (or them...cuz a few more could pop up.) with braces by pushing them between other teeth, but more often than none they can remove them. My poor neices just live with them cuz their mother hasn't proven to be responsible enough to take them to the dentist! Sorry...in a bitter mood. My neices smile with their hands over their mouths, and they are beautiful girls. So, my recommendation is that your friend do what she can to get it removed. It may be concidered cosmetic, but if it is pushing on another tooth, it may be covered by insurance. Also, check last seasons America's Next Top Model, Tyra had one of the girls extra teeth removed...it was kinda gorey, so be careful if you find it.

It might not be a tooth, but an infection or light pigmenatation of the gums. I would call his dentist immediatly to book an appointement.

A supernumerary tooth is an additional tooth not present in the normal teeth. A tooth in exes of the regular number.

A supernumerary should be removed as soon as there is evidence that it is interfering with eruption of other teeth in that area.

It is called a malocclusion. it can be pulled since it will never end up back in the right place. if it is just a baby tooth the permanent one might come in OK. It is not a "deformity" that will persist.

My cousin had the same problem they need to take him to a dentist as for my cousin there was not enough room in her mouth for all her teeth the dentist needed to cut a couple out so as not to deform her..

If its on the lower jaw it is most likely due to a smaller cramped jaw bone. Even baby teeth have to have enough room to come in straight. Take the kid to the dentist and have it removed if it is giving the kid a sore tongue. As the adult teeth come in braces might be in order.

It might be his permanent tooth trying to push through, although kind of early. Defiantly go to a pediatric dentist.

I'm pretty sure it's normal for kids to have baby teeth pop up everywhere. He should have been to the dentist a few times already...if not he need to go and they will do xrays anyway..
