Its a good question, but christians will ignore it, or avoid it. They will pretend its not an issue. You don't solve a problem by inventing a greater problem and then pretending the greater problem isn't there.

In searching our world of finite existence, for words or ideas to explain the existence of a God that is not bounded by the finiteness of our world we error by assuming that that which lies within finite experience can define the terms of that which would make what lies outside of finite states understood. If you would ascribe to the word "God" all that properly belongs to it, you would know that the sum total of the personality and intelligence of will which by neccessity must be attributed to it is not subject as we are to the finite experience of cause and effect but rather is an active and eternal choice to will the attribute of infinite benevolence inherent in the plurality of being. This benevolence or universal willing of good is a state of perpetuality of selfhood in the eternal now. God does not need our understanding of why it is that He is or even why He chose to create beings which would have the ability to hate and reject and question His existence. Evidently He thought that to create additional agents of moral choice was worth the possibilty of the rejection that is evident in the world in order to give to those who are willing the experience of Love in eternal states.

I would say that the why of the universe is tied to the why of His attribute of Love. And the why of God? Cannot but be the same. What love does in the here and now, love has done eternally and it is within the plurality of existence within the Godhead (Trinity) that love has been expressed by sheer intelligence to will. God is Love personified. Why does love do what it does? Can it do otherwise and still be what it is?

Aren't there more important things to worry about? What about the state the world is in, fighting hunger, helping a neighbor, or even bettering yourself? Instead of worrying about the things that man cannot answer, use your precious time and gifts for more obtainable goals. Although the world needs thinkers, we also need doers. By getting involved with humanity, you just might find the answer you are looking for now. God bless you.

Why for God? He needs no why. God created the universe and us for HIM, for us to worship and praise him.

Why for God? To love and be loved unconditionally, He loves us so much He sent His only son to die for our sins.

Why for God? Because without Him, eternity will be spent in Hell, an eternal pit of fire, you won't burn but you will be in misery, tortured for eternity. But with him, eternity will be spent in Heaven, in splendor so great you can't imagine. No more sorrow, no sadness, no sickness.
