Method 1 (the method I used and know works)
- back up your data
- insert your XP install CD
- boot to the CD
- format the partition
- reinstall XP
Method 2 (ive seen this and other methods on numerous sites)
To remove the Boot Manager loader from your primary partition, use the BootSect.exe utility found in the Boot folder of the Vista DVD
Use option /nt52 to restore the ntldr loader
Use option /nt60 to restore the BootManager loader
Editing the menu options in the Boot Manager when starting your computer is no longer available through the file boot.ini
You have to use the BcdEdit.exe tool to acomplish this task
there is a link to method 2 article below

I think its only possible if you have the Windows Xp reinstallation cd.
Or, it may be possible to partition your hard drive with 2 Operating systems. When you do that, it will ask you each time you turn on your computer whether to load Vista of Xp

I used vista RC1 this update to vista beta2 , I was happy and UN happy with it. It looks fine the way to get around the files and folders are different it is strong it recovers from any error. I was un happy with it for the following reasons it take more RAM half my software's did not work and I need to use them badly my scanner did not work my modem I need to send a fax did not work mt mic did not work my camera did not work so I had to format after I backed up the partition if I decided to use it again I will have it ready installed. I think it is too early to judge until software is available for it and drivers are available for it, but if you want to try make sure that if for any reason you change your mind to be able to install windows xp and activate it.

Once you install windows Vista Beta 2(or RC!0 you cannot rollback to a previous operating system installation you have to either acquire and install the final released edition of windows vista or re install a previous edition of windows. Before installing windows Vista Beta 2 on any computer remember to back up all your files

Yes - you just have to create a second partition on your hard drive (or purchase and install a second hard drive) and install Vista as a dual-boot option. So after Vista is installed, when you boot your computer you will have two options - Windows XP and Windows Vista!

Yes, I downloaded it and wasn't happy with the slowdown of my computer. It really messed mine up, but let this stop you, because everyone has to judge for himself. If after you use it awhile, and it's not what you want, it can be uninstalled, and go back to your XP. There are instructions on the uninstall portion.

It is hightly unrecommended to install over WindowsXP, what you want to do is either resize yur hard-drive to create a partition for Vista, or install on a different hard-drive if you have more than 1.
But if you were to install over WindowsXP, then you would need your original WindowsXP to reinstall WindowsXP (note: you'd lose all your files since you would have to format your hard-drive in this case).
