Hey I am from Compton and I was wondering why dosent the goverment helps this crazy violent ugly city?...Look I think Compton is like this first the parents of the teenagers they dont care what they do...second the police around here dosent care what people do.... I would like that someone does something we the residents are doing many stuff but the mayor and the city says that they dont got more money for more police or for at least any programs to get kids out gangs....We do got programs here like the only MBL Academy in the USA or a school who to learn who to fly 11 years old have broken records here.. But I tell me self why dosent the goverment does something to calm down the violence.

I liked Andrews answer, but I believe the old cliche " Either your part of the problem or part of the solution" applies here. Reform starts with the individual. You can't point to the government and expect them to solve your problems when you aren't willing to do something about it yourself. Look at New Orleans.
Here are some starting points:
1. Put down your 9 and don't be cappin' your homeys. Black on black crime is an epidemic in this country. Listen to the people that tell you this, like Bill Cosby and realize that the crackers want you to kill each other off so they can move their double wides into your hood and drive their pick up trucks with the rebel flags down your street. Don't give them the satisfaction.
2. Take your education seriously. Allow your teachers to teach. Knowledge is power and power is knowledge. Education is the ladder out of the ghetto.
3. Respect your own property. Fix the broken windows and paint the houses in your hood. This will instill civic pride, improve your environment and the environment of others.
4. Respect authority and authority will respect you. Do you blame a cop that constantly gets assaulted, cursed, and abused by the community for being apathetic and not wanting to protect a community that holds him in contempt. Wave at him with all your fingers extended and maybe he'll wave back.
5. Take responsibility for your actions, teen pregnancy, and single parent households perpetuate the welfare mentality. If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em. Keep it in your pants untill you can provide for the fruit of your loins.
6. Act as a role model for others. Commit to a change and others will follow. A Gang is the adolescent minds idea of a family unit because the real families don't provide any feeling of security.
7. Observe the "Golden Rule". Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. But also observe "Screw me once shame on you...screw me twice shame on me". And along these lines comes religion. I'm not a big fan but faith is an important part of a family whether it's in Jesus, Allah, or Chango.
Unfortunately, you may not see a significant change in your lifetime but change will occur. In the last 50 years, there have been lots of changes, one at a time, slowly but deliberately toward equality. Your best hope is to get out, because you realize the problem is there. Maybe someday you can come back and make a difference.

I remember Compton, Lynwood used to have nice beautiful homes and several movie stars lived there but that was 30 or 40 years ago. I guess whats happened is the gangs and low graded people have made slums and such a bad names for these cities that they are leaving it up to the homeowners to do the cleaning up and I think that is wrong. I really think its a shame when our president will give our tax money to the poor and fix things for the foreign countries before they help us at home in the USA. Look what happened to New
Orleans same thing....Good Luck to you and I hope that residents like you get a break and fix up compton....Once a Paramount Resident.

There is a severe lack of informal social control in places like Compton. By informal social control, I am talking about parents teaching children the difference between right and wrong with a steady dose of love and caring, as well as quality schools keeping kids off the streets, and interested in math/science/art/literature and not guns and violence.
Without these informal (non state) institutions, kids get a skewed view of the world, and they see any authority as uncaring and harsh, including the formal social controls (police, courts), which are only there to punish them and reinforce that negative view of the world. People think of them as a lost cause, and they pick up on that, developing feelings of insecurity and low self worth.
Long story short, noone cared about the Compton residents when they were young, so they found refuge in street gangs, grew up, and passed on that same uncaring and cold attitude to their children, and the cycle continues.
It's not white oppression, it's not a sign of inferiority of one race to another, and it's certainly not a training ground for marines.

Why doesn't the government help out Compton?
Easy - there are no rich white folks living there. If there were rich white folks worrying about their safety and well being, you darn bet the government would be right there helping them out. Amazing what a little racism and economic discrimination will do for a city, isn't it?
May sound horrible, and it may be a rather racial statement, but explain some other reason to me?

What do you want, more police? You know, the police will have t be quite violent themselves to gain control of the situtation. Innocent people will likely get hurt. Then the community will blame the police, instead of themselves. It's a shame, but really the solution is for the men of Compton to be Men and not children themselves.

The government figures its a great training ground for future soldiers.
Anyone who lives to be 18 is considered a great fit for the Marines.
