what color are the particles?

if they're white and flaky it's probably dead skin cells. if they're black it could be either fleas or dried blood (possibly from fleas or another insect, parasite, or an injury.).

The matting is either because she has something embedded in her fur or it could be because she needs to be groomed more often (sounds like the latter explanation). depending on the coat thickness and maintenance, groom her like every day or every other day or maybe once or twice a week. sometimes cats can't reach every part of their body. My cat had this problem around her neck and rear. She also may need a bath. just not more often than once a month.

take her to the groomers if you don't want to groom her yourself.

Your cat could have fleas - collect some of the particles onto some white paper and add some water to them, if it turns to red then your cat has fleas, this is dried blood. If this is the case then deflea your cat. Long haired cats need to be groomed on a regular basis - at least once a week. If you cannot comb the matting out you will have to cut them out with scissors being very careful not to cut the skin. Good luck.

If the particles are dark, your cat probably has fleas. And the matting fur says that your cat is probably not grooming herself.

Try to help by grooming her. And if she doesn't start grooming herself soon, take her to the vet: Most healthy cats are very insistent on grooming their fur.

Good luck!

hello

if the bits are white could be dandruff - take to the vet to get checked over, if the bits are black it could be flea dirt and you should get flea treatment off your vet. pet shop treatments are not strong enough and won't work
not sure hwy the fur is matting maybe due to the bits or because he/she isn't grooming her/himself properly. Try brushing her regularly too. hope this helps!

Dandruff??? Is her coat oily too? Maybe you should take her to the vet and have her checked. Some older or overweight cats can't or don't groom themselves well, so you might need to step in and help her out.
