I've been working out 4-5 days a week (1 hr.each day) for eight weeks now after a year of very little exercise. I tried kickboxing-aerobics yesterday for the 1st time and am somewhat sore everywhere. Should I take a break from tonights workout or will that make me more sore or be bad for my muscles later?

Hey,

My advice would be to work whatever group of muscles are less sore and you should be fine. Also if your extremely sore then a day off could do you good then just pick up the slack the next day.

Muscles grow when your away from the gym or asleep so its never a bad thing just use your best judgement.

Good luck,

When you're really sore, it's best to take a day off, it doesn't do any good to work them again when they're already sore, they just stay sore. When you're doing weights, be sure to rest the muscle group you just worked, give them a day off. Heating pads are great, ibuprofen, hot tub or baths.

Skip the class and do stretches instead to help relieve the soreness. The best results with weights is one day on one day off and then a class on the in between days. It worked for me.

You will be tons more sore tomorrow if you leave your muscles idle for tonight. You should at least do some stretches. I know this sounds gross, but if you eat some bananas and have some pickle juice the potassium and sodium with prevent muscle cramps and might help with the soreness.

Unless you are a sports professional and working with a professional trainer, you should not workout every day. Having a day to let your body rest and recover in between is a wise thing to do.

You feel pain because your body wants you to feel pain. It is telling you to slow down. Hurting your muscles is not building them. When you workout your muscles rip slightly. Your body needs some time to rebuild those muscles. If you overwork you are ripping them even more and causing more damage than good.

Definitely give it a rest. Your muscles need time to rebuild in between workouts. If you don't rest, you're actually doing more harm than good.

When trying a new activity, it is best to give your body a break for a day. Your muscles need to get accustomed to the new activity. Good luck... you must be in great shape!

yes it is better to let your body rest. but you can do your upper body and lower body on alternate days so you can keep your body moving everyday. you can also do sit ups or crunches every day and you can walk every day, but as far as weight training your muscles need a chance to grow bak together and build before you work on them again 24 hrs usually does it

When you excercise you break your muscles down and they need rebuild, so they can be stronger. I suggest you stretch and to keep your muscles loose, go for a walk or a light swim.
