Does your cat chase its tail? My kitten does, it's so funny to watch. My grandma's cat will roll over when told. I about died of laughter when I saw it.

Hi Jen...it is so cute to watch them when they chase their tail for the sheer fun of entertainment especially when they are young. Older cats will do this too, but not as much.

Here's a poem I hope you will enjoy about a cats tale of tails.

I can't seem to figure out why my tail follows me around.
It is there when I eat, it is there when I drink. It is there when I play and it gets in the way.

When I am running and trying to climb the wall, I see it out of the corner of my eye. It is striped and looks like a snake. I stop dead in my tracks and turn, but it isn't there. When I turn in a circle, it is sometimes there.

Sometimes it curls over my head and touches my ears. I hate it when it does that. Some day maybe when I am older, I will catch it while it is spying on me. When I sleep it sleeps and when I rest it rests. I wonder if I am the only one this happens to. Maybe all kitties have a tail like mine. Maybe their tails chase them too. A lot of times when I am getting into mischief or doing things I shouldn't be doing, I think it tells on me, because it see's everything I do and it just sits there and watches. My favorite thing to do is climb on freshly folded laundry and instead of giving me balance, it makes mine worse because me and the laundry end up on the floor and then I have to run and hide.... to my surprise it follows me.

Yesterday I was running while playing and I saw it following me, when I looked back to see if it was there, I ran smack into my litter box and fell over. Jeesh, it is always causing trouble for me, but I guess I am somewhat attached to it.

Yes! My grandma's cat chases his tail and attacks it almost everyday! It's so cute and funny to watch. He acts more like a dog than a cat.

I have had cats chase their tails, and it is very funny. Try placing a paper sack (from the grocery) on the floor and watch the fun. Also, if you have a laser pointer of some kind most cats will chase that until they drop (but don't shine it in the eyes..yours or the cat's). Another fun thing is to "stalk" your cat. When she/he is in another room peek around the corner, then when she/he sees you, pull back. Then, sneak another peak, and so on. He/she will attack you (in fun), so watch out. Have a good time with your cat.

We have 10 cats, and one chases her tail. Do you know that is because they are bored?? (Same holds true for dogs).

It's funny to watch for sure, but most of the others play with other cats or their toys (or us).

My kittens do. They usually out grow that particular quirk, but one of my kittens has a birth defect where he's missing most of his front right leg, and it's sad, but amusing to watch him chase his tail, jumping the whole way around. He can catch it, I'll give him that.

Right now, they're both chasing this beetle that showed up about an hour ago. The one with the heart murmur but all four legs (they're brothers), saw it first and followed it all around the room until he lost it in the blinds at the back door. Then, very upset to lose his new best friend, he came to me, crying very piteously. He went back to where he first saw the bug, and retraced his steps to try to see if he missed it along the way. Finally, he spotted the bug again at the sliding doors and started harassing it again (I tried killing the bug, but the cat wouldn't get out of the way long enough for me to smoosh it with my shoe). That attracted Panda, the one missing the leg, who sat there watching. When I went to the restroom, I came back out, and there was Pacer, crying at me because he lost his bug again. Panda found the bug, and they both went back to playing. Normally, I'd worry about them getting worms, but they're due for shots and a dewormer, anyway, so I guess they can just keep playing with it.

I used to have a cat who loved to play fetch, and also knew how to open doors by swinging with all his weight from side to side on the knob until it turned. One night, he opened the pantry, got a potato, and brought it to bed. I wake up with a hard, cold, dirty potato on me. Too tired to do anything about it, I chucked it off the bed. What do you know, but the darned cat thought I was playing a game, raced off the bed, retrieved the potato and dumped it back on me. I chucked it off once more, and he brought it back. At that point, I gave up and went back to sleep. In the morning, it was a shriveled up, soft, spongy thing with hundreds of little teeth marks on the outside. I guess it felt good on his gums.

Cats are awesome animals and great companions. My 2 are hilarious. They love to chase the laser pointer, even trying to climb the walls! We used to attach a small toy onto the end of a fishing pole and cast it onto the floor. Hours of entertainment on a snowday!

My 13 year old puss-puss (I didn't pick her name) sits on the top of her kitty-condo and spins around after her tail, when she catches it she looks so surprised1 Then she whips her tail away from her paws and starts over again. Whats REALLY funny is when she falls off the thing! She doesn't hurt herself but she looks so annoyed. I just luv the little angel.

Yes! My cat used to do it a lot when she was little kitten. The funniest one ever was when she did it on the stool, eventually falling off of it but landing on all 4 paws.

I had one that always thought his tail was worth chasing. He also would attack the mirror.

I never saw one roll over on command though. That's cool.
