I just finished watching Jesus Christ Superstar (The 1970's musical movie) - I thought it was great. Though you could argue it portrayed Jesus as less than he really was. But then, it was told from Judas's point of view, so of course Judas didn't see Christ for all that he truly was.

So what do you think about the movie/musical (please state if you are a Christian or a non-Christian in your answer)?

Christian, here. A little sacrilegious here and there, not 100% Scripturally accurate, but a wonderful tool of it's day to put the name of Jesus into men's minds that they might ask questions. I had the 8-track of the sound track back then, and I still sing some of the songs from time to time. Herod's Song, though demonstrating Herod's disrespect for the Lord, is kinda funny up to a point.

While I don't recall the movie per se, I know the soundtrack by heart. And, it seems that the music very accurately reflects the doubts which Jesus had which are found in the Bible.

I find the songs great fun to sing. I think the ones sung by Jesus are quiet uplifting. Obviously we know that Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute. Right now I'm too tired to think of the lyrics of all of the songs.

I once taught at a small Christian College and used Jesus of Montreal in class. Since the text was in French one of my students tried to mislead her Dad about what it said. The president of the College who was also a preacher was very supportive. He cited Jesus Christ Superstar in comparison and how it had actually done a lot to get the Christian message out.

I would really recommend getting a copy of Jesus of Montreal and seeing it. It is really inspirational. There is a web site called Hollywood Jesus or something like this which discusses all of the Jesus like characters, etc. in movies.

I am the daughter and grand-daughter of preachers. After years as an atheist I'm a Christian again.

I don't anybody would find it offensive because I go to a catholic school, and we did a live performance of Jesus Christ Superstar last year.

not all christians are Christians. you're a real Christian once you could distinguish the rights and wrongs the Bible teaches you. to that end, the Jesus Christ celeb opera is blasphemy and a entire mockery. no person can call themselves a christian. in the event that they do then that is greater a boast (label) than genuine faith.

I liked it, but I'm not Christian. So I didn't find it at all offensive :)
