you will defenitely see a much better picture.the only difference between hd compatible and hd ready is that the hd ready tv has both the ntsc (analog tuner) and the atsc (digital tuner) built in..... that means that the tv is capable of recieving free to air hd broadcasting without the hd tuner

no there would be no benefit because although your television is HD ready it does not have the vital piece needed to decode the signal that is an HD adaptor box they aren't available yet you have a socket for the box but that's all you have so there is no point in wasting money on a subscription to sky you still won't get HD TV. we will have to wait sometime before we get TV broadcasts in HD maybe when the analogue signal is switched of sometime between 2010 and 2012 then we just might be able to view it then don't hold your breath it will be a while yet.

You'll definitely notice an improved picture difference.

Standard analog TV in the US is broadcast in the NTSC standard and has far fewer lines of resolution than HD signals.

Essentially, you're currently seeing a picture broadcast at 480i... if you upgrade your service to HD, you may be seeing up to 1080i.

I've upgraded my service and think that the extra $10 per month DirecTV charges me is well worth it.

Good ans. by Lucas. As a hi-def cust for a year now (42 inch wega Sony} I gotta tell you the diff is very remarkable. I have cable, so I needed to get a hi def box. Don't fall for that monster cable bulls--t, you don't need it, and it is a ripoff. Finally, if you watch sports, you won't be able to live without hi-def. Go for it. rat
