You may have to give up the friendship or at least how much time you spend together... even if you tell him you just want to be friends, many guys (girls too) often still hope you will change your mind.

If he acts rudely, he was never you friend and no loss. If he is your friend he will understand over time, and politeness is not as important as direct honesty. Do not lead them on if there is no sparks on your side, do not give mixed signals.

Give yourself some distance from each other so both of you can find other friends, and eventually one or both of you will find someone.

Be direct and honest. If his feelings get hurt, it is not your fault. Do not allow guilt to play a role in your announcement. I believe that you are capable of being compasionate and gentle... face your fear, but do it in a time and place that is safe for you.

Talk to your friends that know him and ask their advice too.

go somewhere quiet, with no distractions (i.e a park) and sit down with him. Tell him gently that you think he's a great person but you're not suited as a couple. Tell him u value the friendship more and would just like to stay friends.
If he still cant handle it, u may have to not be friends for awhile to give him time to come to terms. He may not be able to be friends anymore, for that you have to respect his decision. good luck : )

Do yourself a favor and tell him. There is nothing worse then when you like a girl and she isn't honest with you becuase she thinks she'll hurt your feelings.

You will have a better friendship that way.

oh man..

"well school started and i want to focus on that more than anything these days, and im afraid i dont have enough time for you..."

or

"i've been having too much problems and before i take it to the next level, i wanna have time for my own to relax.. and then maybe we'll see"

or

"i dont wanna be with you."

That should do it. The old "I like you, but not in that way". then get away from him before he blows and goes searching for an Uzi.
