Until I started looking after my g/children in the holidays I didn't know this area well at all. I've been here 3 years and only just about knew where the shops were! Now with 3 children and a limited budget we've discovered something free or almost free to do, see or visit almost every day. I've done more than my share of travelling abroad but we live in such an amazing country it would take a year to discover half of what goes on within a 50 mile radius of my small town.

Where I grew up, yes. Over 250 years of history and all the historic places. It's hard not to when you grow up in a small New England town before Cable TV or the internet were invented.
Where I live now, not yet, but I'm learning. Haven't been in the area very long.

I'm ashamed to say I probabily know very little.
And with the capital city of London on the doorstep it's something to be pretty ashamed of... I used to work in the Westminister area of London and there are so many tourist attractions in the area and yetI I could tell you very little about them other than the houses of parliment and cathederal.
I think it's probabily just human nature to be so tied up in your life, career etc not to take in your surroundings and some of the amazing history going on around us.

I can honestly say that I know about most of the "Tourist" attractions in my local area and also those within a days walking distance.
A lot of people in my country do.
We are the ones who were brought up without the help of TVs and Dvds. Every night. All Night.

There are lots of places here in the northeast I have not visited, and I was born here, and grew up here. I keep telling myself I am going to, but haven't as yet. Maybe some day before I kick the proverbial bucket, i will though!

I went to stay a couple weeks in a neighborhood in New Zealand. I studied a great deal about the area before I left and when I got there, most people didn't know anything about where they live. Older people tended to know more (Obviously).

I hope I know where I live.... otherwise this might not be my house.
It's true, I take my location for granted, I have the coast, the river tyne, northumberland, the city of newcastle, modern, medieval, renissance style buildings and well, it's beautiful really.

Alex H. I love the place too. But it isn't going to stay lovely if you keep telling people about it.
You have your whole lifetime to explore the place where you live, that's why you never do it.
