Let him believe in Santa Clause! Your only a child once. My 6 yr. old son leaves cookies and milk out for him. When he is asleep we dump some of the milk and leave a few cookie crumbs to make it look like they have been consumed by Santa. We also leave a thankyou letter from Santa that includes everything Santa has seen him do all year, good and bad. This way my son knows that Santa is really watching him all year. On Christmas eve we take my son in the backyard and have him sprinkle glitter. We tell him it is reindeer food and the reindeer will stop at our house to eat while Santa makes his delivery. Make it fun! Sometimes you can leave a present in the yard and tell your son that it must have fallen out of santa's bag!

He's four and you think he doesn't know what's going on about Santa? Show him a pic of Santa and see what kind of answer you get. My son's 5 and we tell him that Santa is real.
They are only children for a short time. Let them keep some magic in their lives.

Don't spoil the magic of Santa! Kids have to grow up fast enough as it is. My 9 yr. old still believes, but my 12 and 14 yr. olds don't. I waited until they were old enough to ask me about it, and then I asked them what they thought. The movie "Polar Express" is a great movie about believing in the magic.Watch that with your son, if you'd like. I watched it with my kids and even my older ones like it.

No, don't tell him about the big guy.
Santa is for real, he lives in everyone's hearts. Besides a 4 yr old is too young to understand that stuff. He just believes what he sees at the mall.

From experience, you won't have to tell him about Santa--everyone else will. No one will tell him about God, that one is up to you. We talk about God and leave Santa up to the peers to discuss. My son came to me in Kindergarten and said he didn't think there could be a Santa because only God could do all that. I didn't tell him one way or another, I just took that opportunity to read the story of St. Nicholas.
Make your own way. Use your instincts.

Make it interesting. Explain to him about the Macabee's, and the miracle of light from the Jewish faith. That is always an interesting story! How did that oil last for 8 days? Happy Hanukka!
