Toyota has never 'aimed' at BMW.Their quality & dependability has always been better than BMW.
I'm in the automobile business (for the past 23 years ) & I follow all the trends, marketing, manufacturers, polls , studies, advertising etc.
Toyota saw what a phenomenal business pick-up trucks were in the U.S & that is what they aimed at.

The Ford F-series pick-up out sells every other vehicle made, and it has done that every single year for almost 3 decades.

In the number 2 spot for volume sales in the U.S is the Chevy pick-up.

Toyota saw that & set out to reach for those 'stars' with their Tacoma & Tundra.....which are sad attempts & cannot hold a candle to American Trucks

However, now with Ford cutting back production on their trucks & SUV's, I think Toyota will think they've reached their star. But they are wrong ...when it comes to Trucks.

Their CARS ...now thats a whole other story.....Lexus , Mercury, & Cadillac still have better dependability & reliability ratings than Toyota. but Toyota's quality has been slipping, due to more mass production. Don't get me wrong ...I'm not bashing them...I just speak the FACTS based on actual research & studies, NOT opinions.

So please don't "shoot the messenger" all you Toyota lovers.
And all you "Beamers' out there..you still have 'above average' quality cars so don't go crazy with 'thumbs down' on me

Yes i agree. Toyota makes a dependable car for a decent price. I went from working at a private garage that serviced import and domestic cars to a Toyota dealership. I see mid 90's Camry's, corolla's, etc. coming in with 200,000+ miles on them still in good shape. Lexus is definitely aimed at upper class buyers but new features on the Lexus models will find their way into Toyota's such as the Avalon and Camry a year or two later. Many parts are identical between Toyota and Lexus and I believe that your getting just as good of a high end vehicle if you buy a Toyota Avalon compared to a Lexus. A lot of people will buy a Lexus just for the name.
