Perhaps it is the idea that evil exists that you need to look at more closely.

Evil or bad is the name that we give to things that happen that we wish had not happened.
Just like good is the name we give to things that we like.

In truth neither Good or evil exist in reality, at least not outside of the mind that believes in them. They are only judgments passed by the individual from their own unique perspective. What one person sees as bad or evil may seem to be the only logical thing to do from some other perspective. The ideas of both good and evil are point of view specific. This is why people like bush and bin laden are either loved or hated. Bush is seen as good by people who share his fear based thought system. Those who have a compassionate concern for all of mankind often see him as evil.

Bin laden is much the same. He is a villain in much of the western world, but he is somewhat of a celebrated pop star on the Middle East. There are T-shirt shops that sell items with his picture as though he was Jesus. It all depends on your point of view or perspective.

To sum it all up good is the name we give to people who do things that we think we like.

Evil is the name we give to people who do the things that we don’t like.

This is of course based solely on our particular point of view.

Angels were with God when He created everything, they watched as He made the earth and Adam and Eve. Lucifer was the greatest angel in heaven, more or less God's right hand person.
As all the angels were given free will, but they still worshiped God and sang high praises to Him. Lucifer decided he was as powerful as God if not more so. God knew this and cast out Lucifer to hell and said that he can roam the earth, now satan (Lucifer) does roam this earth and getting into peoples minds to do the evil for him. He wants souls just like God does. There is a Holy War going on and we don't even realize this. I guess in a round about way I answered your question, satan did start the evil that we know so well. Remember even while Lucifer was getting other angels to follow him, God knew this would happen. God gave us all free wills and as Bob Dylan once wrote, you're gonna serve somebody. It might be the devil or it might be the Lord, but everyone is going to serve somebody.

Following that logic, someone who created a device to supply power to an entire city for $1 a day would be "not so smart" if a military got hold of the device and used it to fry a country on the other side of the globe?

That is, is a nuclear physicist necessarily unintelligent if her discoveries and/or inventions are used by others to harm people?

God creating us, and our turning against God, only indicates that one part in this equation is intelligent: God.

The devil's free-willing mind is the birthplace of evil. It doesn't matter if his mind is in eternity or temporally located in Sausalito.

As I understand it, it was the all important freewill trait that was bestowed on both angels and man that got everyone in hot water with the Man in the first place. The devil didn't exist in heaven at earliest creation, at least not until archangel Lucifer betrayed God.

You know the rest of the scenario, and so here we stand. Mankind fraught with jealousy and envy, hatred, spiritual confusion, bodily sicknesses, wars, etc.

Grasshopper, from every degree on the wheel one sees a different perspective. One must view an issue from all directions to fully comprehend it's meaning. Some things one can not understand because one must first attain the capacity to grasp the entire spectrum of the subject in order to fully connect to its meaning. Our society has not reach that point at this time. One should pray for wisdom and understanding.

Either God invented all things, including Satan & evil, or he did not.

If God existed, he would by necessity have to be evil since he invented it in the first place.

So you see the devil as a personification of God's evil impulse?

Interesting.

Jung would love it.

That's pretty incoherent. Try smaller sentences, each containing one complete thought.

I'm afraid we do not agree about the first part of your paragraph.
