I get them too and a brand new product that just came out (homeopathic) that works great and you can get it at Walgreen's is Hyland's Homeopathic "Leg Cramps with Quinine." You take one to two caplets with water every four hours as needed. I take them before bedtime when I get flare ups of my leg cramps and they give me much needed relief. Quinine was taken off the market by the FDA a few years ago because it was 'doubtful' as a night time leg cramp relief but then people complained so much because IT DID WORK! It worked for me and lots of other people. So I was happy to see this on the shelf the other day! I got a leg cramp the other night and took some and it worked! Be sure to read the label though before you take it. It has a bunch of other herbs and stuff in it. The good thing is you can take it too during the day if you get leg cramps while sitting in a chair at a desk, etc. Hope this helps.

The bananas anwer is correct as it can give you the potassium your body is craving, if that's the case. Headaches can sometimes be caused by a potassium deficiency.

There could be more to it than that though. RLS, or Restless Leg Syndrome may be something you should also look into.

As always, any medical concern should be diagnosed by a doctor, not just by people on message boards who stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once.

Hopefully you are not on Creatine, it causes really bad cramping in many individuals and no amount of supplementation gets rid of it. Otherwise, people are going to tell you to eat bananas and take potassium, but actually you need a good overall mineral supplement to make sure you are in balance. A mineral imbalance or shortage is usually the reason.

It sounds like you have a salt/potassium inbalance.

You can cut down on salts, and increase your potassium and that should make the cramps go away. I used to get these, and this cured them.

Things that have lots of potassium include bananas avocados and fortified orange juice.

Good luck

Oranges have considerably more potassium than bananas. For the short term, try morphine.
