My reason for (suddenly, strangely), wanting to return to church after many years is because of the 'feeling' i have in there and afterwards, no other reason...I'm not even sure there IS a god...Is this justifiable.. Is this how church attending is supposed to make u feel?..Calm, cleansed and happy?...............(Just learning) :-)..i think it would be good to have faith in something

(((When i say 'Hypocrites' i refer to those who feel it's their DUTY to go, (family pressures etc etc) when secretly they are non believers)))

That's a loaded question, and I can't blame you for being concerned. I will tell you this: the hypocritical spirit lives--inside and outside the church (unfortunately). There is a stigma that those who are OUTSIDE the church have placed on the church that says that MOST of those who are within the church are hypocritical. This is not true. What you have is sinners who are working out their own salvation. In the process, we stumble, we fall, we get back up again. On the outside looking in, this may seem hypocritical, but instead, it's just people who are working toward righteousness--just like it sounds like you want to do! You said a few other things that I would like to elaborate on, so feel free to join me in Yahoo IM, but I think it's imparative that I mention this one--> be absolutely SURE that there is a God...the evidence is all around you AND in you. From whom do you think you receive that "feeling"? Also, it is not the church attendance that should make you "feel", but the God IN the church (and in YOU) that should make you "feel". Who knows--in no time, you should be able to serve God and help others--both in AND out of the church! Be confident about growing with the Lord and when you do go to church, spend your time looking up and not around--upwards you will find perfection, and around you will find imperfections. God bless you!

Christianity is based upon faith not feelings. Emotions are the most unstable part of our being. You can watch a movie and be laughing one minute , crying 5 minutes later and scared out of your tree a few seconds later. Hollywood has used this for almost 100 years now, but the church has only started doing that in the last 30 years or so. I've been a Christian 60 years now and see little similarities between now and 50 years ago. Jesus said, "When I return will I find faith on this earth?" You need to learn to walk by faith if you want to see the reality of Christ in your life. When you do He will give you the peace that passes understanding and you will have no questions about His existence.
Music is a cover up. People sing and they feel good, but nothing has changed in thier life. They stop singing and the problems and concerns come back so they have to start singing again to make the guilt and bad feeling go away. It is very frustrating.

Church has/offers many benefits. It should be a place where you feel comfortable growing and learning about God and God-centered things. You should be able to find friends and community. Our church really focuses on the community aspect. We've taken turns re-roofing one another's houses this summer. You should feel calm, refreshed, like you celebrated something special, because you have.

I'm not sure why you'd say people that go there are hypocritical. No one is perfect. You don't have to be perfect to attend church, not should you think you will ever be perfect. Church is actually very beneficial to people that are for certain not perfect. I should be a place that makes you want to be better and to know God better.

There are hypocrites in church, for sure. But we cannot let them keep us from doing what is right. Also, to some degree, we are all hypocrites about something! Your search for God is very admirable. The best type of church to go to is one that preaches the bible and having a relationship with Jesus Christ. I am a Baptist, so of course I recommend a Baptist church, but there are others out there, also. Attending a good Bible preaching church and learning how to be saved will give you the assuredness that you have done the right thing.

Every single person born has played the hypocrite at one time or another. So what if there are hypocrites in church, there's 20 times as many on the outside of the church! Your dentist is a hypocrite, but he still fixes your teeth, the clerk at the grocery store is a hypocrite, but it doesn't prevent you from buying groceries there. You get my drift. Go to this website and click on the section called Equip Store and read any of a number of free articles concerning the Christian faith.

If we lead a good life every day of the week and not just on Sunday then we are not hypocrites for going to church. Church can help us learn more about the scriptures and how Heavenly Father wants us to conduct our lives. It is uplifting and helps us throughout the week especially when we read the scriptures on a daily basis so that we may learn more of Gods will. Good for you in returning to church and I hope you will find one that will make you soar spiritually.

When I go to church I go for the main reason of learning about God. I want to make myself a better person, Holy if you will. You should go to church because you want to not feel that you have to go. Having doubts about God is a natural thing, I believe all Christians go through that. That is why I study the Bible to find out the answers to questions like that. You are not alone in your doubt but if you do not go on a spiritual journey to find the truth we might as well just say we give in. I don't want to give in, I am going to be a seeker of truth, my journey is to find out how I can make God proud of me. Keep the faith sister and God will set you free.

not all people who go to church are hypocrites, just as not all who attend church are Christians... I attend church because I feel like I get spiritually fed each week. I leave feeling re-newed and ready to take on another week. I'm glad you are wanting to find faith, I hope you find everything that you need. it is a wonderful feeling having faith.

Some are some aren't. The same as those who do not go. We should only worry as to whether we are hypocrits. I cannot nor will I judge another. I live my life and follow my faith. I attend Church often and I never leave without feeling my faith strengthened and my spirit clean and renewed. That is how it makes me feel.

In the sense that people most go to church out of social habit and not because "they just love the Baby Jesus", I don't think it's actual hypocrisy. Now if they go to a brothel Saturday night and got to church the next morning talking about how wonderful it is to live a righteous life, then they are hypocrites.
