My dog hates her name (Muttly) and won't come when I call her. She turns her head the other way and sometimes trots off. How do I fix this? Any suggestions for another name? It has to start with M as all her things are monogrammed. Thanks.

Her not coming when you call has nothing to do with her name, you just haven't reinforced the connection between you calling it and her coming to you. Try standing next to her with a treat, say "Muttly!" in a bright tone and when she looks at you, give her the treat. Keep treats with you and do this several times a day, varying the distance between the two of you. At first, make sure you hold the treat out so she knows you have it. If you call and she does not come after two tries, put the treat back in your pocket and ignore her for a while, then try again later (this reenforces that she needs to come the first time, and that you will not chase her down to give her the treat). Eventually, you can wean off the treats and just use praise and petting when she comes.

There are many cute names that start with the letter "M" but I doubt renaming her is going to get her attention. Try rewarding her with treats and lots of tlc whenever you call her by name. If you really feel the need to rename her, how about Muffy, or Molly. Both are similiar to the original.
