I called my ortho and they said it was okay to file down the edges of the aligners to make them smoother. I did that, and it's better than it was, but the edge keeps rubbing against the back of my tongue and irritating the damage that's already done.

Would it be feasible to use dental wax for braces on the edges of my trays? Mostly just the inside of the bottom tray. Aside from the standard teeth tenderness, I'm not having any trouble with the top.

Thanks for the help!

Seeing as how it's Friday NIGHT, thank you for not expecting your orthodontist to come out and see you to polish the edge of your Invisalign. (I get it...)

Yes, it is fine to put a little orth wax on the spot that is bothering you. It is also fine to keep trimming the Invisalign appliance right up the outline of the tooth shape. You can get rid of anything that it sort of curved out towards your tongue and still bothering it. You may find that it is easier to trim the edge smoothly if you use a plain old pocket knife. Hold the blade at ninety degrees to the edge of the aligner and scrape it back and forth. This will trim the plastic without leaving a rough area behind as an emery board might do.

Honestly, you're paying a lot for invasilign, so i think you should be 100% satisfied and comfortable. I would ask them to see you to adjust the aligners for you. If the Dr told you to do that, i would be surprised, my guess is that it's office staff that gave you that advice. Ask for an appointment and get any discomfort taken care of, i mean you were these almost 100% of the time so they have to be comfortable!

Listen to Dr. Sam!! If you feel comfortable smoothing on your trays a little bit by yourself, go ahead & do it, but I would still have them adjust for you on Monday morning. It shouldn't take more then a minute. Sorry you have to live with some discomfort during the weekend.

your ortho should be doing this, that's lazy of them to tell you to do it!
