4 is the earliest to start, after 80 you might want to consider a rocking chair. So no, 16 is not to late to begin. Nor is 79. Kung Fu, while considered more of an art form is the basis for Ninjitsu. Karate is an unarmed form of combat originally designed by peasants to fend off Samurai. To master Kung Fu requires learning a minimum of 7 forms and 7 weapons. There are variants in Karate but do include several weapons common to farming adapted to combat. Kung Fu would be the more graceful of the two but both will provide the exercise you are looking for and are good for the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems. Learning to breath and meditate is good for focusing the mind. Although not as common among modern martial arts styles today. It can be still studied and should be incorporated in any martial arts form.

Nah dude, your still young enough to be flexible and learn Wushu, but you'll have to stick with it if you hope to be as fast, or as accurate as people like Jet Li and Tony Jaa.
guys like them have been training from a very young age, often as young as 4yrs old and never stopped training.
But with hard work, plenty of practice, and a lot of dedication; and it's possible for you to do what they do.
but if you think that you'll be able to perform moves like those you see them use in the movies, I've got news for you my friend, the Chinese cinema use wire work to make the actors look like they can fly through the air, or jump an incredible height. some of their abilities are actually possible, but only to a point. the rest is Movie Magic through editing and stuntmen, and wire work to get the look the director wants to see.
you can't believe everything you see in the movies, not even if it says "Based on a true Story"
Don't believe me? look at some of the special features on the DVD's of the movies, and you'll see what I mean.

If you work hard enough and don't have any physical handicaps, then anything is possible. I've known 30 year old men who went from never having had a regular exercize program to flexible enough to do the splits and agile enough to do flying spinning kicks in less than three years.

As long as you work hard, you can definitely do it. It'll take time though, and lots of it.
