All dogs shed year round. They will also shed more when it gets hot, and some dogs shed more in the winter because they are inside in the heater.

American Eskimo dogs have a very thick coat with two thick layers. Usually the undercoat is always shedding, especially if you don't live in a really cold area all year round. These dogs were bred to live in the snow and if they aren't, they will shed more. If the dog has bare spots, or is shedding in clumps, sometimes a better diet or an increase of fatty acids in the diet can help with coat condition. if you live in a warm area, it's a good idea to take the dog to a groomer and have the coat stripped. This isn't cutting the hair, but the groomer pulls all of the dead hair that gets caught in the undercoat. Your dog will feel better and perhaps shed a little less because he isn't so hot.

American Eskimo dogs shed all the time. short of shaving his entire body, there isn't much you can do about it. Some dogs shed seasonally, others shed all the time. Eskimo dogs are year round shedders. There is nothing wrong with your dog.

Typically dogs with heavy coats (German Shephards, Am. Eskimo, Alaskan Malamute) will seriously shed their coats twice a year - also called blowing their coats. Now these breeds of dogs are blowing their summer coats, a natural occurance triggered by the shorter, colder days. Then in the Spring they'll start blowing their winter coats. This time a year the hair shedding wil be heavier - but should decline in about a month as their winter coat comes in. Of course, just like us, they'll continue to loose hair here & there, but it should lessen.

no it is normal i have a alskain malamute and he is all the time shedding. think about it they are meant for the below 0 temps. their body is still trying to get use to this climate. their are some shampoos that say it reduces, but i found it just matts up the fur, best thing to do is to have them groomed then 2 weeks later groom them again and then the loss hair should be minimized.

I guess I'd have him Vet checked first, and inform the vet of his food type.

Then I'd probably switch grooming techniques if the dog is otherwise healthy. I use more of a Curry comb on my Wolf Chow.

You don't state where you live. I got my 'Spirit" in Washington State, where the weather was suitable for her thick coat. I now have her in Florida, and she sheds,,,even when shaved.

I'd stay away from lotions, or even special shampoos until I went through other options, especially the Vet check, and the food type.
