Reinstall windows.... basically no matter what I do it always comes to that.

I don't understand why I got a thubs down. Realistically you can never get rid of every part of a virus... so reinstalling windows is the best thing. Just save you rimportant files to a cd or disk.

The major antivirus software makers (such as Norton/Symantec, McAfee, CA/eTrust, etc.) have full-time teams that do nothing but round-the-clock antivirus work. They analyze each virus to determine what the virus does, how to undo what the virus does, and how to reliably detect it.

Removing the virus is only part of the resolution. Any damage that was done must also be fixed; this is often, though not always, possible. It is also useful to prevent the virus from re-infecting the computer, such as with your antivirus software's real-time protection feature.

Antivirus programs are designed to detect the presence of viruses on a computer. Sometimes, they can also remove the infection. Often, the major antivirus software vendors will post instructions for manually removing a particular virus; search the databases on their websites. Sometimes, Microsoft will also have articles on how to remove certain viruses.

If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the Windows Update program will download and run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool once per month. This tool will automatically locate and remove viruses and worms that are currently wild in large numbers.

Most PC Tech shops will not really want to spend the time to search manually for the infected files after running spyware scans that cant remove some. They will just reformat. I dont like reformatting do to peoples personal data getting wiped. I only will do it if its really infested (when no spyware program can remove it). I would advise anyone these things. They work cause I use them on every computer I work on.

Sometimes you just have to get your whole system wiped down and start over. You can do a search for a free online virus checker. Try your own first but sometimes the virus disables it.

You should have a firewall and virus checker running all the time.
