The answer is no, for several reasons. If a child is old enough to color (usually recommend introducing coloring between 9 and 15 months), they need to be taught the appropriate use. Most young children tend to mouth objects, but need to be taught what can and can not go in the mouth. Even though most crayons are non-toxic, I would not trust all brands and they still pose a choking hazard. Also, if they think it is OK to chew on crayons they may chew on similar items like chalk (which can cause lead poisening and developmental delays). I would suggest monitoring the child closely and taking crayons away when they go in the mouth. If it is a really young child, you may want to consider introducing them again in a month or so (some are still too much in the mouthing stage). My daughter started coloring at 10 months, but would almost immediately put them in her mouth. I kept trying again every couple weeks until she showed more interest in actually coloring with them (about 14 months). If it is an older child (18 months and up), you can address it more firmly as at this point it is more of a behavior issue than the natural tendency to mouth objects. I would not give up on encouraging coloring, as it is important to the development of pre-writing skills. Good luck.

are you kidding?
No crayons is not healthy for your child, it may not be toxic, but not healthy. Keep a eye on your child and make sure he/ she is not eating crayons or anything that can be bad.

I don't think you should let your child EAT crayons. But, I think that it's okay if they chew on them a little.

Sure but don't let him live on them...a well balanced diet is the goal, and crayons, I think, fit into the snack category.

Just because they aren't toxic and technically they don't cause any harm...that doesn't mean they should have a free for all crayon buffet!! No...take them away, that's not what they are for.

crayons can get pretty dry. to prevent choking, let your child wash it down with a tall glass of windex.
