I just wanted to know how much tax in taken out of a paycheck in NY. If I make $840.00 every two weeks. How much tax will it be taken out, without any benefits. I just want to know to see if I can afford paying rent every month.

FICA is approximately 11% and federal income tax 10% total of 21% if you only check one exemption.

You can find out that information by going to www.tax.state.ny.us for the NYS personal income tax rates.

You can also use Publication 15 to determine your federal withholding.

Also, deduct another 7.65% for social security taxes.

Assuming that you claim Single with no exemptions, your federal taxes would be $96.55, Social Security taxes would be $64.26. I'm not sure about your taxes for New York because I don't know if you live in NYC or not.
