If you want to play guitar, play guitar. If you try another instrument you'll likely not enjoy it as much because you'll be comparing it to guitar. Just because your cousin plays it doesn't mean you can't. You can even use the guitar to build your relationship with your cousin. Ask for help or just get together and compare what your learning and jam together. Go for it!!

You should try the ukulele. I love it. Baritone, which I play, is the top four strings of a guitar, so it would be similar. If you really want to play the guitar though, go ahead. So many people play it nowadays that I don't think he/she would mind.

Play the guitar if you want, there is no law that says you can't do it because your cousin does, besides, you can be a duo and play nice songs together.
