in 1996 i received fin aid for one semester. in 2003, i attended 3 quarters on fin aid. im thinking about enrolling in program that takes 6 years. how many of these years will i be eligible for pell grants if my income is below a certain level?

There is no maximum number of years for the Pell Grant. You lose eligibility for the Pell Grant when the college you are attending determines you have attempted more than 150% of the hours required to get a Bachelor's degree.

So if you need 120 hours for a degree, you would have 180 hours of eligibility. Subtract from the 180 the number of credit hours you have already taken, and you will get the number of hours of eligibility you have left.

Other state and federal programs are different, so be sure to discuss this with your college aid office as soon as possible.
