My mom happens to have a problem with it....

then she probably had a problem with you learning english...

i'm chinese and i can speak mandarin, canotnese, english, and spanish. not weird at all.

no not weird at all- go ahead and learn Japanese- you will find it a very useful language if you want to become a successful international businessperson, Maybe your mother has a problem with it because, during World War 2 the Japanese were sworn enemies of the Chinese and many Chinese people who were alive at that time or had parents who were alive then or were perhaps living in China at that time found anything "Japanese" distasteful and even offensive, because the Japanese were considered the enemy and because of the bad way the Japanese military treated the Chinese during the war.

Nothing wrong with it at all. My parents didn't want me to learn Japanese either, but that was more due to WWII. But I took 3 semesters of Japanese anyway!!

Not weird. English is my native language (born in usa). Know German. Have tried to learn Japanese also.

Go for it. My dad wanted me to take Chinese classes, but I picked Japanese. I haven't regreted my choice.

I don't see how wanting to learn a foreign language is weird, no matter what your nationality is.

There's a Taiwanese boy in my Japanese class, after all.

just go for it! it's not weird AT ALL!!
it's just nice if u can learn languages from all over the world!!
i'm indonesian and i'd love to learn japanese! jap is not really hard to understand anyway!
it's okay, u can talk nicely to your mum, tell her that u really want to learn japanese. i suppose she should understand u.. if she doesn't, can't u ask ur dad? kay then, good luck!

nothing wrong with it. Most americans cant tell chinese from a japanese, from a korean. you are way smart to conquer both those languages and english. way ta go!

nope. learn whatever you want. do you already know chinese? if not, that might be why your mom is having a problem with it...?
