It is about 40 miles away and the traffic is horrendous. I just traveled from NJ to the south going that past Baltimore and Washington DC on the interstate.

Monuments and memorials, eclectic neighbourhoods, true regional flavour this is exactly what Washington, DC is; a place unlike some other; the same as this web site hotelbye . Washington it's your home abroad with free museums and America's entrance yard. Washington is acknowledged around the globe as a mark of the United States. Here, the place you can't skip is the Capitol. Capitol may be the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The large dome, based on the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, sticks out above all other Washington buildings. Like Washington itself, the creating has grown over time since the main part was created between 1793 and 1812. The final improvement, in 1958-62, enlarged the main façade wherever presidents take the oath. On another area, a marble terrace presents wonderful opinions on the mall and the city. The inside is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, especially the rotunda beneath the good cast-iron dome with a roof painting by Constantino Brumidi and enormous paintings of scenes from American record on the walls.

They are 39 miles apart. The trip can take as little as 1/2 an hour or as long as 4. Try Yahoo Maps to find an alternate route than I-95 as it becomes a congested quagmire from 5 am until 10 am and 4 pm to 630pm Monday through Friday. It always seems especially bad for some reason if you are coming from NW Washington through Chevy Chase MD. Good luck, my best time of half an hour was at 2 am on my way to Florida.

Baltimore lies in an arm of the Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the world. The eastern two-thirds of the metropolitan area lie on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, between 15 and 50 feet above sea level, and contain many peninsulas jutting out into the bay. The western third of the city slowly rises into rolling hills, and leads to the piedmont region. It is located about 40 miles from Washington (D.C.), and approximately 100 miles from Philadelphia. The Atlantic Ocean lies about 2 hours to the southeast.

From downtown Baltimore (City Hall) to downtown DC (White House) - 37 miles.
Rand McNally also gives you this value. I have verified this number hundreds of times in my travels.
