It is a culture, a religion, and an ethnicity. However, the ethnicity thing is complicated, since Jews migrated from Israel and gradually mixed with other groups. You will find Asian Jews, Black African Jews, and the kind we are all familiar with, European (Ashkenazi) Jews. The original Jews, before leaving Israel, were pretty much like Arabs. I think that if Ashkenazi Jews have a right to be an "ethnic" Jew, then so do Black Jews, Asian Jews, and any of the other different kinds of Jews due to the migration out of Israel.

I don't think it's wrong for one not to believe that being Jewish is an ethnicity. There are, however, Jews who are Jewish just because of their religion, and Jews who are born of Jewish descent. The ones born of Jewish descent have the physical characteristics of Jews.

Yes, one can be ethnically a Jew but not be religiously a Jew; besides what is the basis for your premise. I don't like the term Native American as a racial classification, since everyone born in the US is a native american , I feel American Indian is an accurate moniker.

i think Judeism (cannot spell!) is a religion, foremost. the nation of Israel was founded from the descendents of Jacob, but also incorporated the foreiners living among them. but i think it is a mistake for someone to claim to belong to the Jewish faith, simply because of their birth, when they donot believe or practice it.
