I'm a Catholic, and I usually go to church every week. When everyone goes up to accept the body and blood of Christ (the host and the wine), I just stay in my seat.
Why, you ask?
I was called out by a priest at Mass last year in front of my whole Church. I was walking up to get the host, and when he held it out and said "The body of Christ," I said "Amen," but reached out for the host instead of allowing him to place in my hand. He rudely corrected me and told me that I had to 'practice' for next time.
I was very embarassed, went back to my seat and thought that it was all over.
Then the same priest went up in front of my Church (about 500 people) and mentioned that a guy came up for the host and reached out for it. He told everyone that it was essential to take Communion seriously, and the "young man"-- or me, didn't take it seriously.
I was so close to getting up in front of my Church and telling him off, but I didn't.
It's been a year. Should I start going to Communion again?

My question to you is why do you continue to attend that parish? If I were in your position ( and I have been to some extent), I'd switch parishes...one that is deserving of your support and attendance. Some priests seem to lack class....

remember, priests are just men, they are not perfect..
and don't feel embarassed about going back..
it is essential that nothing stand between you and your faith. and don't let any kook tell you to leave your faith, it is your decision.

it is not "bad:" to not take communion but it is a sacrament and part of catholicism.. in fact all christian denominations practise communion in one way or another.

p.s some priests are used to putting the eucharist directly in the parishoners mouths' but don't trip...

you can live with embarassment, but regret is an awful companion

Everyone is welcome to the table. I don't believe Christ ever set "rules" for Communion. No offense intended, but there is so much I don't understand about the Catholic Church. God wants you to commune with Him, but if the priest is going to insult you in the House of God, I suggest perhaps a different church.
God bless

Have you ever spoken to him in private about this? That should have been the first thing you did and it should have been done soon after the event.

Do not stop going to Mass or the Catholic Church because of this one thing. That would be an even bigger mistake.

Unfortunately, some priests are jackasses. Spiritual leaders are human, and some have very unpleasant personalities. However, to allow one priest to wreck your spirituality would be absurd. Go to a different parish if necessary, and begin receiving the Eucharist again.

No, and you shouldn't be Catholic either.

Catholics make communion a ritual.

Rituals are pagan. Read about pagans to understand more about it.

Pagan is of the devil.

You should read your Bible and denounce anything ritual, as well as anything where you pray to anything other than God and Jesus.

In other words, if you are a true Christian follow the word of God and not some Catholic priest.

No priest should be so hoity toity to as to get mad at your for something like this.

I don't think he is a man of God.

Well, in Church here you can either have the host in your hand or in your mouth, I think different priests have different methods and ideas.

I'm sorry you had that experience. Partaking of the elements is between you and God, something you do in rememberance of Jesus' sacrifice.

According to the bible, the only "rule" is that we first examine ourselves and do it in remebrance of Jesus.

Go, take communion - blow off the legalism of your priest and just do it.

Jesus said to celebrate his death once a year. His followers that night took bread and broke it handing the bread around from one to another.
He took wine and told them to drink of his blood, and it was handed around by hand.
Look through our website, we have millions of catholic converts who love doing it right. You have committed no sin I know of, and can be forgiven if you study hard and realize the truth.

It's up to you. But be warned: many RC priests are very freaky about how exactly one receives communion.
