A regular tea bag will help the blood to clot faster. Surprised dentist did not tell you this.

Don't take out the gauze and try not to stick your tongue in it. You should lay down and not be active at all until the bleeding stops. If you take out the gauze I'm afraid you will get a dry socket which will hurt worse. If it's before 5pm where you are call the dental office and ask them for advise. If it is after 5pm leave a message with the answering service so the Dentist can call you back.
Hope you feel better real soon.

Bite on a wad of gauze for an hour and see how it is doing then. If it's still bleeding, take a fresh tea bag, run some water through it just to get it wet, squeeze out the water, bite on the tea bag just like you were biting on the gauze. If this doesn't stop it in 20-30 minutes, you need to see someone. If your dentist is not available, you need to go to the emergency room.
The gauze may be annoying, but bleeding to death is a sure way to ruin your weekend.

Try wetting some of the gauze and putting it in the freezer. The cold should help stop the bleeding. I know the gauze is annoying but a dry socket is one of the most painful things out there. If it is bleeding alot then you should call you dentist or go to the hospital.

If it won't stop bleeding and it's a lot of blood, then it's a dental emergency. Otherwise, the gauze is annoying, but you need it. Call them if you're concerned.

Call your oral surgeon just to be on the safe side.
That extraction site may bleed until tomorrow and that's normal. Don't use your sucking reflex at all. That means no sucking on straws, and no smoking.
Not using your sucking reflex allows a clot to form over the extraction site therefore slowing and eventually stopping the bleeding.

If it's not too late, call your dentist for advice. If he/she is not in, call your primary care physician. Until then, pack empty space with gauze.
