usually twice a year. How old? Some are a little more or less. write down the date of the last time and the time next and kep track this is usually around six months but some are every five some every 7 keep track and in a couple years you will be able to get it down to within a week. you have about 5 months to wait. There is no way to hurry it up either.

First make absolutely sure he knows exactly what he's doing. If he doesn't know even when his APBT will be in heat again, it sounds like he's not a licensed breeder.
Any random person can watch two unregistered dogs they want to call pit bulls have sex and then watch a female have puppies and can sell puppies on a street corner for 30 bucks.
Responsible breeding is as hard to do well. Until you can satisfy the requirements that the serious hobby breeder should meet, you will be doing the breed an injustice if you have a litter of puppies. Make sure he has the facilities, the time and money to put into this. As it is, there are too many dogs in America already. Unless he can provide a home that will spay/neuter the pups, he's bringing even more dogs into a potentially bad situation. There's a ton of sites out there created for the express purpose of persuading people intelligently to NOT breed their dogs. There's just -so- much to consider before breeding - just make sure to do your homework, or make sure he does his...
Best of luck to you.
Edit: Also, in response to neutering taking away aggresiveness - the Pit Bull should only be aggresive toward other _animals_, not people. They're actually considered a bad gaurd dog because they're generally too friendly (think labs). Aggression toward other dogs is just needless and frustrating to a good pet-owner - there's no reason why you should want to lesson that.

If your friend is that uneducated about the reproductive cycle of the dog, he REALLY shouldn't be breeding. All dogs go into heat about every 6 months. You friend needs to do some serious research before he starts breeding or he could get himself into a lot of hot water. Breeding, at least responsibly, is an expensive hobby and should not be done by those with no experience.

Pits just like other breeds go into heat whenever they decide to. LOL Some girls cylce every 6 months, some every 7. One of mine cycled every 10 months. Now I have had some that have cycled back after 4 months. You might start seeing fertility issues in a ***** that cylces more than every 6 months. I would suggest to start watching her again in about 5 months.
