as a male. i think are about average.. a bit overweight.
go swim.. you'll build mucles.
or either you can go jog around the block carrying phone books..
or carry bottles of water around your house for thirty minutes.
or find something that helps you use your mucles daily.

Well you can go to GNC and buy some weight gainer, and then you would need to increase your weights every week. Short reps heavy weights. For instance, 40lbs for biceps 5 times, 3 reps of 5. And every week to two weeks increase that weight by 5 lbs. However, unless you have some sort of weights for your legs, you will only gain muscle up top. You don't want skinny chicken legs and a massive upper body, that doesn't distribute weight evenly and you might look a little funny. I would think that running with weights on your ankles could help that, but going to the gym seems ultimate here. There are plenty of gyms I've seen advertising for where it's only like $30 a month. That's not expensive just need to shop around.

5' 10" 170 is just fine putting on 30 lbs of lean mass takes years of very hard work. Weight gainers are carbs and will make you fat. At 21 good luck, most non seiriod users will not gain 30 lbs until late 20s early thirties, metabolism is to fast.
Work hard, get ripped, look good, worry about mass later.
There is so much BS in the gym. this works, that works, most of it is crap, creeitine for instance, stores water in your musle cells, great now you look puffy, Ripped energy drink, more crap, need some energy, have some coffee, safer and cheaper. Protine drinks, more crap, the cheapest, easiest to digest protine is eggs 99 cents a dozen. Whey protine is ok but you must consume it in the first 20 min. after work out.
Rest as in sleeping, get plenty, you would be suprized how little this is talked about. You must give your body time to recover/grow get lots of sleep, if you feel tired, take a day off.

Hey, Sound like it might be good for you to cut-up then bulk up. If you don't you risk a chance of gaining to much mass with no definition. Your already 171 and only 5"10.
1. Find a school track, it's free, this will condition your whole body for whats ahead. (Walk, Jog, Then Run, Jog, Walk and stop)
2. Work on your small muscle groups with the free weights, this helps you keep and gain definition as you grow mass. Make sure to use light weights at high reps for this purpose. Lift properly and use muscle control.
Example = 5 reps of 10s
3. Work on you mass by increasing the weight and decreasing the reps. This pumps you up.
Tip: Hydroxycut = Good for energy, definition.
Mass-tec = Good for you bulk, feeds the muscle
Good combo
Good luck

It is very possible to do, its just a matter of having enough weight. All you need to do is workout all of your major muscle groups (chest, triceps, biceps, back, shoulders, legs) with very heavy weight that you can only do 1-6 repetitions with. This type of lifting shocks your muscles and forces them to grow as well as making them noticeably stronger. If you are using a weight that you can do more then 6 reps with then it means you need to *** more weight. Generally do 3-4 sets per exercise and 2-4 exercises per muscle. Also, 20 minutes of fast walking will burn significant calories and fat.

my bf just lifts weights. Long hard work, but now he's cut so perfect. Toned in all the right areas. Flat abs. Absolutely delicious!
I make sure he eats a balanced diet. I give him his vitamins & he drinks muscle milk. Its not steroids or anything. Its extra nutrients for growing muscles. He takes lots of fluids and gets a full body massage every other night.

yea dude u gotta lose some weight. you should reduce ur fat and increase ur muscle. u gotta burn off more carbs then ur eatin, thats how u lose weight, u gain muscle mass at the same time naturally. bicicle crunches, lotsa jogging, regular old pushups, freeweights are ok but only do those every other day, eat a lotta high protein foods with less fat, like chile or soy beans and maybe select steaks.

I'll give you access to the website for free. I can also discount you. Also here's the URL for Asafa Powells endorsement, so you know I'm not making it up.
"On April 24, 2006, Asafa was announced as global brand spokesperson for Nutrilite. Asafa began taking Nutrilite supplements three months before he broke the world record, and credits it with helping him overcome low energy levels during 2005. [1]"

do a lot of sets of the exercises that work out your arms. focus on one muscle group in the arms at one workout session. so like for one day you can work on your triceps. btw i calculated your body mass index for you and your normal weight unless you want to gain weight in muscles which weigh more than fat.
