Go to http://download.com and find Avast Anit-virus. It is MUCH better than AVG and is FREE, too. I used to use AVG but they've gone down the tubes!!!
Now, you may have to uninstall McAfee before Avast will run. Do this by clicking Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Select McAfee and follow directions.
Update Avast after you install it. Then RUN it!
While at dl.com, also get Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft's AdAware SE Personal. Install them, UPDATE them and RUN them. Keep all three programs UP TO DATE and RUN the Spyware ones DAILY. Avast has real time protection.
After you have done that, you will want to clean up all the messy files that McAfee leaves. To do this:
Click Start>Run and type regedit in the dialog box and then click ok. Select MY COMPUTER by highlighting it. Click on Edit then Find be sure all the check boxes are checked then type in McAfee. Delete every file that turns up. To resume checking after deleting a file press F3 at the top of your keyboard. REMEMBER: if you delete the wrong thing you COULD very well lose everything on your puter including Windows...So BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!
Then Click Start>Search and type in McAfee>Search. Delete everything "McAfee" that comes up.
With a clean computer run your Defrag and ScanDisk and then create a new restore point. You do both of these tasks with all your running programs off. You will want to take your computer off the net while you do this because your Anti-Malware progs will be turned off, too.
To turn off those running programs Click Start>Run and then type in msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and UNcheck EVERYTHING there. Reboot.
Now we're ready to run ScanDisk. Click on MY COMPUTER in your Start menu or on your Desktop. Right click on Drive C>Properties>Tools. Run ScanDisk following instructions. Reboot. Go back to the same place and run Defrag...if you haven't done this or haven't done it in a while this could take a LOOOOOONG time! Set ScanDisk to run again.
Now go back into msconfig and check only the boxes you want to run automatically as soon as your computer boots up. Like Avast, Spybot Search & Destroy's TeaTimer, AdAware, etc. Just because other stuff isn't checked doesn't mean you can't use those things, it just means they won't be running in the background eating up your Resources. Now ReBoot.
To set a Restore Point for your freshly cleaned computer go into Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance. At the top left you should see System Restore. Click it and Create a new Restore Point to come back to in case of future troubles.
Now you're ready to reconnect to the net.
This should take care of your problem.
BTW: if you write anything to CD while infected the infection will go to the CD, TOO!!! Then it will just reinfect you again. AND if you open SPAM you run the very BIG risk of getting reinfected, too, so if you don't know who an email came from do NOT open it...simply delete it immediately!!! Do not open attachements unless you know who they are from but scan them with AV FIRST!!! Don't go to questionalble web sites, they're almost ALWAYS loaded with nasties waiting to exploit your computer. Even those that LOOK good can be infected without the webmaster knowing it. Downloading from places you've never downloaded from before is also risky. I said to go to dowload.com because I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are SAFE!!! I use them all the time and have for years. Sharing files is also a risky thing to do so SCAN those files FIRST!...if you MUST share stuff.

It sounds like you have spyware or adware on your system which I don't believe McAphee protects against.
These are infections that change your system function and tries to get you to buy software that will 'correct' the problem... in actuality it's that program that's screwing up your computer.
So, I'll tell you what I always tell people... try this website
It has really good directions and information, plus it gives links to a lot of free programs that might help.

I think you should get a pro to reset your wondows or whatever. I dont think's theres anything you can do. Lucky for me, my uncle finished a couple years of computer training, so he can fix computers. But i would suggest getting a pro to fix it. if you have valuable infoormation such as pictures, documents, movies, etc, then save them to flash drives or something. I think you've downloaded a virus from site so it got into ur computer. Getting a pro to do it is the best alternative to do right now, thats what I did and now im all good.
