I am aware that there are over 200,000 canadians of Spanish (from Spain) descent. I was just wondering if these people of Spanish descent still speak spanish. I think they do, but I'm not sure. Are there any Spanish-Canadians out there who can answer my question? If they do speak Spanish, I think it's kind of cool how it's lasted over the generations and I also wanted to know if they spoke with a spanish accent or a more canadianized accent (sort of like the evolution of British English to American and Canadian English).

Hi,

Actually, there are no such persons as Spanish-Canadians...

People are simply called "Canadians".... The reason you will sometimes see the word "French" in front of Canadians is simply to make a "precision" on the person "Official language" spoken.... All law books are in the 2 official languages, English and French , both in the same book.... So there are NO Spanish-Canadians...
Schools are either English or French, nothing else...
People are free to speak ANY language and anywhere, except, official and government affairs are conducted in only either English or French...

Actually, we have more Italian speaking people than Spanish...., but we also have ALL languages, since we ha an International Exposition in 1967... and, the Olympics 9 years later in 1976...
That made a real invasion in Canada... and newcommers children HAVE TO have their children in either English or French schools...
Sorry, but Spanish-Canadians o NOT exist , and Spanish is only ONE of many, many other languages spoken, like Russian, German, Etc... Our largest community is in fact Italian...

Hope this clarifies your knowledge....

Well I'm from Canada, and I have to admit I've never run into any, or heard of them. But they could be around somewhere, it's been awhile since I've been there...
