The average over the counter sleep aid is actually just benadryl. So, you are actually taking an anti-histamine to fall asleep.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Because NyQuil's got alcohol in it. That's some great booze. It knocks you out cold. NyQuil NyQWuil NYQuil I love you, You Giant ******* Q! Sometimes the Q talks to me. It tells me to drink more NyQuil so I can go to sleep. It works too. I drank a bottle of it 3 years ago and just woke-up. I saw Osama Bin Laden standing over my bed telling me to wake-up and go eat more paintchips.

because nyquil has much more potent ingredients in it to help you sleep and i think otc sleep aids are a crock of crap they dont work and have to double or sometimes triple the dose so you can go to sleep and thats if you can stay asleep i would never reccomend otc aids for sleep for someone with anxiety problems its a waste of time

because it's "safer" to drink cough syrups than a regular sleeping pill.i know cough syrups can be addicting BUT not as addictive as the pill that after you stop taking it, your body will show withdrawal symptoms which make drinkl even more pills

sometimes the pills don't work..and your body gets used to it..so i feel it would be best to get a medication for this problem from the doctor under his/her supervision because that a way it is safe..

i think it also helps with the coughing and has alcohol in it to put you to sleep faster even though that is not a good way to deal with getting good sleep.
