I already take meds, but I still get a high or a low from on rare occations, is there anything that any bipolar people out there that they found helps to bring them down from a manic high? I've been up for two days now and I'm not even tired.

Tried coffee, it worked before, didn't work this time. My blood sugars good, my blood pressure is stable. The brain just won't slow down. It's like being on a crowded LA freeway going 80 miles an hour...

My doctor is in the hospital right now as a patient! I can't take lithium because of my heart and other meds I take.

alchohol. but i wouldn't recomend you start self-medicating! when doc gets out of the hospital, tell him you're still not quite stabilized. may want to increase the dose of your mood stabilizer, or try a different one. some med options are seroquel, tegretel, trezadone, topamax, depakote, lamictal, lithium (i think you said you can't take that one though.) i'm not manic, so i don't have (much) experience with mood stabilizers. but tegretel is available generic, and it doesn't cause weight gain, and topamax often helps people lose weight. people gain weight on seroquel, but it helps you sleep. lots of people don't like it though, cause it kicks your @ss. i don't like it. trezadone also helps you sleep.

try some liquid valerian root from a health food store. I use it to relive anxiety and help me sleep. Kind of like herbal Xanax :) They also have it in pill form but the liquid will act quicker although it does taste like liquid death.Talk to your doctor before taking anything, you never know how the meds you take will react to even herbal products.

maybe you could try meditating and using aromatherapy? Lavender works great to calm a person down....if i cant sleep i spray my bedding with lavender spray. I also have an oil diffuser necklace that i wear when I'm having a bad day....the smell from the necklace puts me at peace.

Maybe you need Librium. Talk to your doctor. If you are already on meds, don't take advice from us. Talk to your doctor, you might need a change in meds or a new med. Good luck.

No, I don't think so. you should try to eat at regular intervals and avoid sugary stuff to keep your blood sugar stabe, but I don't think there's any way to regulate your mood through diet if you're bipolar.
