First of all, as previously stated, diet soda will not make you fat. You may retain water but that is easily lost as well. There are no calories in the soda so you are not storing anything in your body.

The reason that you are gaining weight is because your exercising is building muscle mass. Muscle weighs a lot more then fat so even though you are trimming up, you stay the same weight or gain some.

I had the reverse effect after high school because I stopped playing sports. I kept weighing myself and was happy because I wasn't really gaining weight but I couldn't figure our why I wasn't fitting into all my "skinny" clothes. Now, I'm going to have to reverse this and start building more muscle and get rid of the fat.

You're on a good start though, healthy eating and exercise will get you where you want to be. Good Luck.

Apparently, they did a study and the ones drinking the diet soda had increased appetite and so ate more other stuff. The most common ways to make you fat are taking in too many calories and not being active physically. Apparently aspartame and sugar substitutes stimulate the desire for "real" sugar.

Yeah, diet soda is called diet but it isn't b/c there are many added sugar substitutes. That is why it tastes sweet. Just look at the ingredients!

Yes, it will. I don't know why, but I do know it does because I've isolated diet soda in my diet before and lost weight when I quit drinking it.

It doesn't, but it kids your body into thinking - ooh here comes some sugar - let's go!......Now wait a minute - that's not sugar.
I'll send out some signals that I now really want genuine sugar right away!

That's how you get fat

No, the amount of calories available in the drink is so negligible to make you fat.

It doesn't make you gain weight, but it still has a lot of sodium in it which makes you retain water and bloat.
Along with that, caffeine slows down your metabolism.

So in a way, yes.
