If you believe in God and Jesus...you will have eternal life...who wouldn't want to live forever in perfect surroundings?..it all comes down to faith...some have faith that it is a myth or a fairy tale..I have faith that He is real and through His Son, Jesus, I will have a chance to be brought back..Death is not natural...but a result of sin...

Do you believe in life after life?? There have been many studies on this. From people dieing put on scales and they lose 1-2 ounces when they die ( the soul ??? leaving the body? ) to people that have been dead and brought back that have amazing stories. There is no way I can answer if you will be happier in the afterlife ..... I haven't been there.

There are two types of people in the world.
Pessimists and optimist.
First off, NO ONE knows the answer as to if there is or is not an after life.
Some people have faith that there is. It gives them comfort and hope.
Other people have the same faith but in this case opposite. They feel there is nothing after we die. That we just rot.
Neither is wrong as both opinions are based on faith, the only way to find out is to die...And I mean dead, 100% brain death. Not the heart-stopped nonsense.
So you see friend, its the type of person you are. It's what you prefer to believe. No one can prove you're wrong! Any one who tries too has a serious superiority complex that they really need to check at the door.
So no, it is not silly to hope...It just says what kind of person you are! =)
PS
Some one pointed out that once your brain dies there is no consciousness and that's it...True, but conversely our consciousness is a form of energy and energy cannot be destroyed, it just takes a different form. Plus you dream while unconscious, so who really knows except for the dead???? And they're not talkin! =)

Well, certainly the concept of the afterlife is very appealling but to me, there is no evidence to suggest that there is actually an afterlife. Nor can I affirmatively say there isn't one. The appeal of afterlife is appealing because one hopes not to lose what they have built in their lifetime. To even consider that there is an afterlife is a form of hope, you dont even have to bring in whether the afterlife is happier or not.

I don't think its silly...I think that that idea is the basis of alot of religions, it gives you strength to keep on going thru what this life has to bring you. And maybe if you keep it up, then someday you'll realize that you are truly happy and a better person.

I believe in Karma. I think that what goes around, comes around, both in your present life and in reincarnation. In your afterlife, you pay for your wrongdoings in this life. If that's what you believe in.

There is no afterlife.
Consciousness is a function of the brain. Your brain will rot and be gone after you die. No brain means no consciousness of heaven, hell, or anything else.
This is not based on faith, but based on the mountains of scientific evidence that proves that consciousness requires a brain.
Dreams are a function of the brain, so they are irrelevant to discussions of death, since you wont have a brain (or dreams) after you die.
Energy doesnt need to be destroyed for you to experience nothing. It is simply used by the micro-organisms that eat your brain after you die.
